Quarantine Notices
Whenever there is an outbreak of an animal disease on one of South Africa's farms, VSF Attorneys is the firm to call. The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development has the discretion to place the premises under quarantine, once there is a suspicion of a disease outbreak. Unfortunately, this quarantine limits the farmer from trading or moving any animals since the disease might spread to surrounding areas.

Some movement may be possible, with a Red Cross permit. However, there are many hoops to jump through to finally get the quarantine lifted - this is where we come in.
We have a 100% success rate in assisting with the requests pertaining to the lifting of quarantines.
Compensation Claims
Being under quarantine does not only mean you cannot move your animals, it also means that you cannot trade. Moreover, you are required to still feed your animals without being able to trade. Millions of Rands are lost daily as a result of being placed under quarantine. With that said, the Animal Diseases Act provides that an owner of an animal or thing may claim compensation from the Government. We have assisted many farmers with the process, but unfortunately, it is a lengthy process.
